Too much binge-watching and eating on the couch and not enough moving around? We think it is the perfect weather to get outdoors and go jumping, diving, surfing, racing and a whole lot of other thrills in Dubai. Dubai’s clean air, ample safety measures and long list of exhilarating activities make it an outdoorsy traveler’s delight! Some of our holiday experts, well-versed in Dubai and always up for an adventure, have put together a definitive list of adventure activities you will love in Dubai.
Hiking and Kayaking in Hatta
The meandering pathways of hills, wadis, and farmlands in Hatta scream adventure! Hop on to a mountain bike or put your best walking shoes on to explore one of the most scenic natural landscapes in Dubai. Surrounded by the Hajar Mountains and their foothills, here you can find the perfect vantage point for picturesque valley views. But the most popular spot in the region is Hatta Dam, a sanctuary of turquoise blue hued waters where you can even test your kayaking skills. Pro tip – on a kayak, you can venture into curved passageways hidden behind the mountains that are not visible from the reservoir viewpoint!
Watersports at the beach
Granted you don’t always associate Dubai with beaches and watersports, but Dubai’s beaches are ready to take you up on that with their clear waters, big waves, and an enthusiastic bunch of fellow watersport lovers. Work up a storm in the water with paddle boarding, kite surfing and even flyboarding for the uber adventurous. Dubai’s Kite Beach, Nessnass beach and JBR beach are our recommended spots to get your share of aquatic adventures.
Dubai from Dizzying Heights
There are many ways to feast your eyes on Dubai’s skyline but if you ask us, nothing beats doing it from the skies. The panorama of towering buildings, beaches and iconic silhouettes is always better from a helicopter, seaplane or better still, a gyrocopter! The slow flying gyrocopter is a mix between an airplane and a helicopter. Seating two, it can fly at low altitudes so you can enjoy an unforgettable look from up there.
Ziplining over Dubai Marina
Touted as the world’s longest urban zipline, this one will have you flying high from a 170m platform on one of JBR’s Amwaj Towers, across the marina and all the way up to the Dubai Marina Mall. Covering a distance of 1 km, get a bird’s eye view of Princess Tower, Cayan Tower and other sights as you zip over land and water at a speed of 80 kms per hour. This one is sure to get your heart racing!
Diving with Sharks at Atlantis
Not a certified diver? No problem, because diving into the Ambassador Lagoon at Atlantis, The Palm is safe for beginners and professionals alike with its variety of experiences. Go snorkeling, diving, or even walking underwater in the company of over 65,000 marine creatures including sharks, rays, and colorful fish. The shark safari – wearing a state-of-the-art helmet – is a good start to test the waters without missing out on your share of tingles. If you are PADI certified, you can go a step ahead and even hand-feed different species of sharks!
Get your heart racing at Autodrome Dubai
Bored of the slow life? Welcome to the super-fast lane at Autodrome Dubai, a 5.39km circuit with six different configurations, a race school, and indoor and outdoor karting tracks. Fasten your seatbelt and experience a real race car as your hit the track in an Audi TT or feel the sheer power of an Audi R8 V10. For rally car enthusiasts, the 315 bhp of punch will have you holding your breath as you shoot out of corners. Kids between the ages of 12-18 can even try their hands at the First Drive experience.
